Destination Weddings in Gela

Gela is not a typical stop on the tourist trail, but this ancient city was once an important town in Greek Sicily. Located on the southwestern coast, it is not without Grecian influences and a certain medieval charm.

Gela’s setting is that of flat coastal sand dunes leading into gentle hills.  Once serving as protection, the city walls are preserved by sand and now covered in protective glass panels, offering a calming site as the waves crash into the dunes below.

The pure Gothic architectural style is rare in Sicily but can be seen throughout Western Sicily within its castles and churches. One of these was the early thirteenth-century Church of Saint James in Gela's historical district.

Many visitors come to view the town’s ancient artifacts from the city’s earlier periods, many of which can be seen in the Archeological Museum.  Other sites of great distinction include the Acropolis and the Greek temples.
