Destination Weddings in Nola

Nola is an agricultural town with a population of more than 32,000 people. An Etruscan stronghold since 500 B.C., the city was an important center of early Christianity. The town features Roman ruins and an old cemetery where Christian martyrs are buried. The town is widely recognized as the famous place in which Augustus died in A.D. 14, and a bronze statue in his honor can be found at the Piazza del Duomo.

Nola is an outstanding destination for a classical wedding; it is steeped in a great deal of tradition and religious history. The city is one of the oldest in the region of Campania on the Tyrrhenian Sea. It was established by the Ausones, the Chalcidians as well as the Etruscans. The local railway from Naples easily accesses it, as Nola is just 22 miles from the main line via Cancello. There are ancient Gothic cathedrals throughout the town and a seminary in which the famous Oscan inscription known as the Cippus Abellanus is preserved. A monument restored in 1887 commemorates Giordano Bruno, an Italian philosopher who used Copernican principles to develop a pantheistic monistic philosophy. Born in Nola in 1548, he was condemned for heresy by the Inquisition and burned at the stake in the year 1600.

There are two fairs held in Nola on June 14th and the November 12th. July 26th is also an important date to the community, as it is devoted to a customary festival in honor of St. Paulinus, one of the early bishops of the city who is said to have invented the church bell. A marriage ceremony in the historic town of Nola, filled with symphonic, chiming bells, can be a regal and wonderful symbolic wedding.
