Destination Weddings in Caserta

Caserta lies at the north-eastern end of the Campania plain, partly surrounded by the Tifatini mountain range. It is an agricultural, commercial, and industrial center, noted for its magnificent Royal Palace, built between 1752–74. The area is an important transportation junction, and there is an academy of aeronautics in the city. Caserta, where the Bourbons commissioned Vanvitelli to design their palace, "La Reggia," is a province of rich history and cultural significance. It attracts tourists, mostly from ltaly, because of its scenic coastline and immeasurable stretch of the Matese area. Caserta is located between Rome and Naples and is well integrated economically because of its many lines of communication. Because of this fact, it has been referred to as the "gateway to southern Italy." Caserta’s cultural Institutions include the Centro internazionale di studi vanvitelliani, the Centro Studi Castellologici, the Museo Vanvitelliano, and the Teatro Comunale.

Caserta is a perfect wedding destination for couples who enjoy history. Formerly Galatia, Caserta was founded by the Etruscans, and reports of a settlement where the city now stands first appeared in the 9th century BC. The city was captured by the Samnites in 423 BC, and its inhabitants swore loyalty to Hannibal against Rome. This act invited punishment by the confiscation of approximately two hundred yokes (the equivalent of sixty acres.) The Romans installed this system of penalty because it enabled them to distribute land to their family and friends. Until the fall of the Roman Empire in AD 476, Galatia remained a colony. With the subsequent barbarian invasions, the city began its slow descent towards its final destruction in 863 at the hands of “Pandone il Rapace,” who forced the locals to hide in the hills.

Today, Caserta's economy is based on agriculture and on an industrial sector that manufactures foods, textiles, tobacco, glass and wood products. The town celebrates a special event in January of each year, Festa di S. Sebastiano, where concerts at the Royal Palace are presented.

An authentic Italian environment, Caserta is just the place for a unique marriage ceremony. With its history and its appeal to native Italians, any event is enhanced here!
